Fanagoria Awarded New Medals in France

Fanagoria Blanc de Blancs Brut 2017, méthode Classique, protected appellation of origin ‘Sennoi’, has been awarded a silver medal at Chardonnay du Monde.

Chardonnay du Monde is an international competition that annually summons best Chardonnay wines of various styles. Since 2015, Fanagoria Estate Winery has been successfully participating in this competition. Say, Blanc de Blancs 2017 was awarded a gold medal there in 2020, while Charmat Bruts got silver medals in 2015 and 2016. The list of Fanagoria’s prize-winning wines also includes such still wines as A Hundred Shades of White. Chardonnay (2020, a silver medal) and Cru Lermont. Chardonnay (2016, a silver medal).

The 28th International competition of the world’s best Chardonnays was held on 9 to 12 March 2021 at Château des Ravatys, at Saint Lager in the Burgundy wine region of France. The contest is famous for its international scope and diversity: this time, 604 wine samples from 36 countries were tasted by 200 international expert judges. According to the organizers’ website, “As part of these Quality Assurances, all new judges must participate in a one-day training session before being admitted to the tasting panels. For each judge, this session includes sensory profile determination, Chardonnay aromas identification and various exercises to familiarise themselves with methods used in international wine judging competitions.” After three days of judging, the panels awarded medals to 196 wines. The distribution of medals is as follows: gold medals – 51, silver medals – 145.

According to the official website, this competition “has progressively distinguished itself from other international competitions thanks to quality standards that are much stricter than the norm and by remaining faithful to its founding principles, which have driven its success over the years: diversity, quality and high standards.”
