Velvet Season Muscat, a late harvest sweet wine crafted by Fanagoria Estate Winery, Russia has been awarded a silver medal at the Sakura Wine Award competition held in Japan in late January.
The Sakura Wine Award is the largest wine contest held in Japan, where gains popularity among consumers. The contest is held in 6 categories: white, rosé, red still wines, sparkling wines, sweet, and fortified wines. The competition is open for the wines made from any grape variety, both varietals and blends, with the annual production of more than 1,000 bottles. The total number of entries this year was 4,326, coming from 34 countries. The winning wines will be presented at the Foodex Japan exhibition in Tokyo in March.
This year was Fanagoria’s second participation in the tasting competition in Japan; in 2015, its Cru Lermont Saperavi Fanagoria 2012 was awarded a gold medal.
