Fanagoria Gets Three Silver Medals at Mundus Vini

Taking part in international tasting contests allows Fanagoria to expand the geography of destinations of its wines and to increase the number of awards.

In February 2018, Fanagoria for the first time participated in MundusVini, a tasting contest held twice a year in Berlin. Our winery won three silver medals there: for Cru Lermont Saperavi 2015, Cru Lermont Chardonnay 2015, and young sparkling brut Muscat Ottonel.

The contest has been organized by the German publishing house Meininger Verlag for 15 years. In spring, it was held right before the world’s biggest wine fair ProWein in Düsseldorf. This year, 6,770 wine samples arriving from more than 150 winemaking regions throughout the world, were judged by an international panel of 270 experts from 44 countries of the world. According to the rules, medals are given only to 40% of the total number of samples that were given the highest points in their respective category.

Cru Lermont Saperavi Fanagoria (of several vintages) has received medals at different contests held in Austria, the UK and Slovakia.

For Cru Lermont Chardonnay Fanagoria 2015, the medal in Berlin was the fifth award, including the Cup of the Russian Union of Viticulturists and Winemakers’2017.

As for Muscat Ottonel, it is a rare specimen of bruts crafted of Muscat grapes that has several times been given prizes in Austria and France (at the Muscats du Monde contest).
